Why We Are Selling Our House

I never thought we’d sell this house. If you know me, you know I have loved this pretty place.

House For Sale in Mendota, VA

It’s given me amazing gardens…one year 168 quarts of green beans. My elbow still hurts from breaking beans. Tons of canned tomatoes and spaghetti sauce. The best corn I’ve ever tasted. If you know, you know. It’s always best when it comes from the back yard.

It’s where I learned to can…which has been useful so many times. During COVID I had to figure out how to make something similar to Bush beans which were not available. These turned out pretty well.

Made a few of these…each quilt is my “baby!”

And enjoyed so many pets. Many of them are now gone. But not all! Tippy likes putting together those pretty blocks, too! Always on hand to help.

As I said, I never dreamed we’d sell. But I also never imagined myself at 70 and my husband at 77, yet here we are! The picture below where I’m drinking a margarita was taken when we lived near ‘DC. I was not even 40. The close friends with us have since passed.

My focus in this picture was probably on a future vacation, going to see a play, clothes, decorating a house, doing Jazzercise. Having fun.More and More. I wasn’t exactly a deep thinker or reflective. That’s improved with age and I’m grateful. When I hear people talk about how selfish the younger generation is, I understand that. I was that person for many years. In my faith walk, while I was a Believer, I wasn’t a Follower.

The realization today is that we are not young. Reality. We’ve gotten older. Maybe old!

Yet, I’m not sad. I’m looking forward to the future. In this life, I feel that when you stop dreaming, you just stop. And when you just stop, well, that’s it.

I’m still dreaming. Hope you are, too!

Kaleidoscope of Stars Quilt

This quilt top was a fun one to make. I saw it on Pinterest and I found the pattern on ETSY. It was created by Kate Henderson. Her ETSY shop is Kate Henderson Quilts, and she lives in Australia.

The fabric that I used for the quilt is a Moda fabric purchased at the Virginia Highlands Quilt Shop in Abingdon, Virginia. Kim is the owner of the shop, and she will actually be doing the long-arm quilting for this quilt. I hope to enter it in the Washington County Fair. It just looks like a county fair quilt. I am not entering it because it will win. I just want to show it off!

The fabric was called Story Time Fabric by American Jane, and I had the white background fabric from another project. The print fabric used a layer cake plus a charm pack.

I’m bordering the fabric next week and taking it to Kim. I like these big block quilts that do not require a lot of time, although I will admit to having the “stars” turned in the wrong direction several times. I’d post on Facebook, and people would tell me which stars were turned wrong. I could not see them!!! Had it not been for figuring out that others could find my mistakes more quickly than I could on my own, I’m certain this quilt would have stars pointed in the wrong direction.

The New Normal April 14, 2020

While it’s fun to make humorous comments about the days drifting during this time of staying at home, I don’t really want to not know what day it is or wear pajamas all day. I DO drift some days, but I don’t want to do that very often. It’s better for me to get up, shower, put on some makeup and start the day. It’s also good if I have a small goal that is accomplished each day.

Today I got the groceries I meant to get yesterday but could not due to the flooding. I also hooked up with the long-arm quilting person who will be quilting my recent quilt. We practiced social distancing. We met at the K-Mart parking lot in Bristol (Now a U-Haul lot but I’ve not yet got used to calling it that). I hopped out of the car, handed her the quilts — I had my sister’s quilt as well — and left.

Here’s what Tippy Jo had to say about the whole thing. She’s a know it all.

Hope you are enjoying your day.
